The owners of a newly converted barn, were looking for a kitchen to tone down the lofty dimensions of their barn. Several other companies had considered the space and suggested only a long island unit, but Aspect proposed and built a bespoke, double curved island unit, from catspaw oak. The oak was used to complement the existing roof timbers and the existing features of the barn. The island was to become the main focus of the room, whilst also being very functional, providing ample workspace, a breakfast bar, an additional sink and storage. The overall design was that of mixing old with new, by using contemporary stainless steel for the plinths and handles, together with modern integrated appliances and granite work tops. The effect was stunning.
