A Stunning Six-Bedroom Home Designed For Comfort And Pleasure

A blend of fun, comfort and glamour was the order of the day for the interior of this modern mansion in Surrey, designed by Halo Design Interiors.

A family home should always be practical and comfortable – but that’s not to say it can’t be glamorous and sophisticated, too, like this six-bedroom new-build mansion in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

With interior design by Blanca Sanchez of Halo Design Interiors, the spacious home is perfectly suited to the needs of the growing family that lives there. But it also has touches of breathtaking elegance – not to mention fun features including a home cinema, gymnasium and games room.

According to Blanca, the family made great clients and their enthusiasm for creating their perfect home was an inspiration. However, they were also happy to defer to Blanca’s specialist knowledge and expertise.

‘The clients had a clear idea of how they wanted the house to feel when they opened their front door,’ says Blanca. ‘They also explained clearly the practicalities of family life, which needed to be allowed for in the design. Other than that, they were open to our suggestions and appreciated being shown new ideas and design solutions that they wouldn’t have even known about, let alone considered, had we not been involved.’

‘With fully automated lighting, curtain systems and integrated AV systems, the house seamlessly blends technology with understated interiors, ensuring that the owners can regulate their environment at the touch of a button.’

As soon as you step through the door, a bevelled mirror wall in the hallway sets the glamorous tone that continues throughout the interior. At the heart of the building is a full height octagonal atrium, which floods the whole property with natural light from a lantern window above. The centrepiece of this atrium space is a bespoke mirrored table, which beautifully catches the light from above.

The dining room is designed around an opulent tree-like crystal chandelier from Serip, which hangs over an antique mirrored dining table. Walls are clad in panelling filled with metallic threaded wallpaper, and two matching wall lights are placed either side of built-in display shelves.

For Blanca, this room is the highlight of the whole scheme: ‘For me, the dining room in particular gave the project its edge,’ she says. ‘The dark-stained oak panelling framing metallic thread wallpaper gave an almost Eastern feel to the room. The bespoke antique mirrored dining table ensured that the room sparkled, as it reflected the organic-looking chandelier above with its Portuguese crystal droplets hanging down.’

Another spectacular area of the scheme is the drawing room, which has another feature chandelier, this time from Italian company Melograno Blu. It has coral-like droplets which are reflected in the zebra-print-wrapped mirror over the limestone fireplace. Two luxurious velvet sofas frame the fireplace, with a bespoke coffee table between them made of bevelled mirror with leather inserts.

Upstairs, the master bedroom suite is also replete with glamorous design details. The bed has a bespoke headboard, which combines stained birds-eye maple veneer, mirror and velvet upholstered panels, with shagreen inserts.

The master dressing area has a back-lit display created in Perspex to mimic the effect of backlit onyx, while the master bathroom opens out to a composite stone bath, sitting on an under-lit mosaic plinth, giving it the impression that it is floating. A bespoke curved vanity unit with Icicle wall lights by Porta Romana overlooks the bath.

The basement houses the entertainment suite, which consists of a gymnasium, bar, games room and cinema complex. Says Blanca: ‘With fully automated lighting, curtain systems and integrated AV systems, the house seamlessly blends technology with understated interiors, ensuring that the owners can regulate their environment at the touch of a button.’

As glamorous as it looks now, the project is actually still ongoing, with Blanca still commissioning artwork for certain areas of the house. Halo Design Interiors is also working with the family to create a new swimming pool, which has recently been granted planning approval.

This house has everything a family could want, and Blanca says that the success of the scheme is all down to having great clients: ‘The clients were a joy to work with. They were open to new ideas and made the process of design an exciting one, as their enthusiasm and sense of anticipation regarding their new home was infectious.’
