City Slickers: The Heron's South Penthouse

by Becky Hoh in Interior designed homes

The Heron’s South Penthouse brings knock out residential interiors to the Square Mile.

Spread across the 35th and 36th floors of the Heron development and measuring 6,000 sq ft, the South penthouse is part of the first major residential development in the City of London for 30 years, – The Heron.

The four bedroom and four bathroom London penthouse property has triple-aspect views across London and double-height spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass. The accompanying interior scheme has the perfect city-chic wow-factor to fit its prestigious location and new-kid on-the-block status. It has been created by United in conjunction with Lisa Ronson, Commercial Director of Heron International. The entire development comprises of 285 highly specified apartments, with polished Sahara Noir marble floors and Boffi kitchens.

The building is adjacent to the Barbican Centre, home to the finest international arts and cultural exhibitions, performing arts and cinema, and the South Penthouse plays homage to that from the get-go. As soon as the space opens out into a dramatic double height entrance hall with a skylight and a marble staircase, there is striking contemporary art and sculpture at every turn.

The dual aspect open plan family living space has dark herringbone wood flooring and floor-to-ceiling- windows. Palettes are formed with block colours, often monochrome but with pops of hot orange, mustard yellows and metallics supplied by furniture fabrics and eye catching art work.

The open plan kitchen is equipped with Boffi designed cabinetry and Gaggeneau appliances. It has a classically opulent feel with an Italian Bianco quartz stone splash-back and island unit and bronzed finishes. Read expert advice on using natural stone in your kitchen

There is also a home cinema room with automated curtains, top spec audio visual technology and more arresting art pieces.

Moving up a floor there are the bedrooms and ensuites. The warm-toned Master has views all across the city and includes a dressing room. Its ensuite features dark smoky quartz and black granite, with a separate walk-in shower room and toilet, all lit with a design-led lighting scheme.

One of the most striking and innovative additions to the property is the uber chic but utterly chilled-out looking area on the upper floor, entitled the indoor/outdoor room. It has a retractable roof, allowing the residents to enjoy good weather in a sheltered environment, that almost feels opened topped when shut because of the large expanse of glass. It has full height doors that lead to the master suite. The beautiful white palette gives it a contemporary feel but also a definite 60s vibe, emphasised by the textured arc lamp and orange block prints of the era.

The South Penthouse is certainly a suitable statement to make its mark as the first luxury living space in 30 years in what must be one of the most sought after postcodes in the world. Very likely allowing some very lucky city workers the rare opportunity to both live in style and walk to work. It combines flair and extravagance, alongside a calming contemporary openness and light, with the cool of a little retro flavour.
