France Chair
Originally called the FJ 136, this piece was designed back in 1956 for France & Son for the American market. This piece, as well as a number of others, became a great success. During the 50's the English gentleman C. W. F. France worked with the most promising Danish furniture designers - Finn Juhl being a particular favourite.
It was designed for industrial production and has a more simplistic aesthetic than other chairs designed by Juhl. Nonetheless, the organic silhouette of this piece and its distinct design features are typical characteristics of this designer. It's hard to believe it was created for industrial production. Comprising of a light wooden frame and liberated upholstered elements, it seems as though the parts of this chair are freed from laws of gravity, giving a unique appearance and an aerodynamic feel. Available in black painted oak and plain oak, the France Chair features a teak frame, a suspended back, seat pads and beautiful exposed brass joints.
