Designer Marcel Wanders designed the Skygarden Recessed Ceiling Light in 2009, inspired by the beautiful antique plaster ceiling in his house. Called the Skygarden thanks to its floral design, and year-round foliage, this light fixture is a modern update on a traditional motif. The concave dome has the pattern in relief, raised from the smooth surface, and is painted in uniform white. A large bulb hangs down from the centre of the dome, illuminating the relief and the room below. The bulb also has a floral flourish, with an intricately patterned steel frieze that covers the bulb when viewed from below. The recessed dome is made in cast plaster, with a plaster diffuser support in die-cast aluminium alloy. The opal glass diffuser that contains the light source is flashed and blown, and the frieze that decorates it is photo-etched and mechanically drawn aisi 304 steel. As the hemisphere is placed within the ceiling, the Skygarden is a subtle, yet beautifully detailed piece that cleverly links to historical interior designs. Measuring 24.5 cm deep, the diameter of the light is 30 cm the Skygarden looks wonderful as an individual feature, or arranged in a group, and can be used throughout the house to add character and interest.
