Surface explores the cracking of the earth and the transformative nature of materials when exposed to external elements. The perfect match to the 'Beneath Rug', this is what it would look like before the cracks in the earth split apart to reveal what lies below. The inspiration behind the Surface Rug comes from the parched Saharan landscape and moved onto the urban landscapes that are torn apart after powerful earthquakes. The slightly apocalyptic notion of Surface is softened by the warm, muted colours and the delicate loop pile that is exposed in the fissures of the rug. JAB again combines devastation with stunning interior design. The piece gently moves between colours to bring multiple dimensions and attracts prolonged gaze.
