A luxury chaise longue is a decadent and stunning piece, and there are many contemporary pieces that retain its element of luxury whilst making it relevant to the modern home. Whilst a bench tends to have a more pared back aesthetic there are many pieces that combine beautiful craftsmanship with incredible design to create a functional, chic seating option.

Luxury Chaise Longues

The modern chaise longue has many different looks and styles - from plush, upholstered pieces to a more minimalist take on the classic shape - there is a chaise to suit each house. Luxury chaise longues are flexible - looking equally as at home in the living room or bedroom as they do in the office or library - a chaise is always an inviting and luxurious piece. The long, slim seat features a backrest at one end which provides a soft surface at a comfortable angle to lean against. Some designs include another back- or armrest too, which can either run the length of the seat or just part way down.

An exposed frame will instantly bring a more contemporary look to a chaise - a metal frame, for example, has a functional and ultra-modern look, whereas a fully padded and upholstered design has a more solid, traditional appeal.

Leather upholstery can create a more rigorous line, as it closely follows the shapes and curves of the frame. Leather will also age beautifully with wear, which can give a sense of easiness and informality to the piece over time. Fabric upholstery comes in a huge range of colours and textures - a velvet cover in a deep colour will bring a touch of decadent glamour to the piece, whereas a crisp white fabric will add a more pared back, modern feel.

A bespoke bench can be a stunning addition to a room, whether it takes the most simple form possible, or has been designed to include unique or interesting details. Communal areas can be greatly improved with the addition of a luxury bench, as can the kitchen, living room, library, bedroom or office, as it is a small and informal seating solution that provides flexibility and functionality.

Typically, a luxury bench has a long, slim seat without a backrest or armrests - however, several designers have included these elements into their pieces. A bench sits low to the ground on a wooden or metal frame, with a separate seat cushion on top - however both of these elements vary greatly.

The frame - made in metal or wood - can have a detailed pattern crafted from metal rods, wooden legs that have been carved into beautiful curved shapes, or simply four slim chrome finished legs. The seat cushion may have deep, plush padding or have a more firm feel and a slim depth. The seat can be upholstered with button-backed detail for added pattern and texture or it can be left as a smooth surface for a more minimal look.

Several bespoke bench designs include an additional cushion or rest, which can take the form of a roll at one end for a stunning yet simple geometric shape, or a central island that can be used as a backrest or armrest that creates a truly unique silhouette.
