There are so many options when it comes to choosing a chair – so it is advised to select a luxury chair design for each room of the house, keeping in mind the specific function of that room.

Luxury chair designs can follow a traditional silhouette – with a frame that has four, straight chair legs, or there are many options for a more unusual design. Perhaps a single, sculptural leg which will perfectly suit a modern, luxury home.

The dining room is a space that requires a set of chairs, which must both provide comfort to the user whilst also fit well with the dining table and other items of furniture in the room. A dining chair typically has a generous, padded seat and a high chair back – as this will ensure maximum comfort when socialising around the dining table.

Materials

Choosing a material that suits your style and taste will help to narrow down the options when buying dining chairs for your home. Available in wood, metal, plastic, leather and fabric – to name a few – each material comes with its own unique look and feel.

A wooden framed dining chair has a warmth and a tactile quality that is opposed to a sharp, modern, metal chair frame, for example. Some designs have a more solid look – whereas others have a thin, light frame that feels more spacious and airy. Armrests are another option when choosing a dining chair - a design with armrests may provide further comfort, but a design without armrests has a simpler silhouette that can look more contemporary.

Often the frame, in whatever material, holds an upholstered seat cushion – this can be inserted into the frame, or can be designed to sit proudly atop the frame. The seat cushion can be slim and neat, or deep and plush – so choose according to your needs and your preference. Several chair designs see the seat and frame upholstered in the same fabric or leather, which is a subtle yet stunning twist on a classic design.

A trend in luxury chairs is the wraparound seat back that curves around the shape of the chair, so that the armrests are an extension of the backrest. This more modern take on the armrest has clean, curved lines that look perfect in a contemporary home.

The living room and library both require beautiful, luxury chairs – however this is a more open brief. An armchair or lounge chair will add interest and a further luxury design piece to accompany your sofa. Choose a low, relaxed design that has short legs, a large and deep seat and a narrow backrest, or a large, sculptural design that features a high, curving backrest with armrests that enclose the generous seat cushion… Fabric or leather upholstery will suit the living room and lounge, which are available in a huge range of colours to match or contrast with the other luxury items of furniture in the room.

A luxury chair can become a focal point in the bedroom too, where an armchair, lounge chair or chaise longue looks very at home, adding to the relaxed and sumptuous atmosphere of the room. Many fabrics will suit the bedroom, however a chair in the bedroom is an opportunity to play with different looks. An armchair or lounge chair looks stunning when upholstered in a more decadent fabric such as velvet, as its luxurious, tactile quality is the perfect accessory in the bedroom.
