Whether in the library, living room, kitchen or bedroom, shelving provides a flexible and practical solution to storing and/or displaying a large amount of items. A freestanding bookcase provides a sculptural, geometric focal point in a room whereas a selection of shelves will not take up floor space and can be tailored to the individual room.

Bespoke Shelves & Wall Units

Freestanding luxury bookcases, or display cases, come in a wide range of styles and sizes - from a contemporary twist on a classic, to a piece that totally reimagines the basic elements of a bookcase. A bookcase lends itself well to a geometric, rigid and contemporary design, as the vertical and horizontal lines create a beautiful movement and pattern across the piece. Choose from bookcases that divide each shelf into smaller compartments or a design that maintains the clean lines of its design with uninterrupted shelves.

A bookcase can have a more open structure, or one that is partially or fully closed. An open bookcase uses slim structural elements to support the solid shelves, however other designs include element that are filled in, such as a back or sides in a solid material - with some encasing the shelving entirely with doors that open to reveal the storage. Several designs have a glass case around the shelves, a feature that is particularly common for a display case, which makes it possible to both view the items on display whilst protecting them within it.

Designs that do not have a back often provide more flexibility in their use, as they do not have to be against a wall. An open structured bespoke shelving unit looks beautiful as a freestanding piece that works as a type of room divider, which is a very modern solution to breaking a large or open-plan space into separate areas. As a substitute wall, a freestanding bookcase works well because it is a light and spacious piece that does not fully divide the space, but instead creates a partial division - whilst also remaining a functional and practical item that can be used and appreciated from both sides.

Whilst some designs have a set structure, others allow for personalisation, meaning that the spaces within the luxury wall unit can be arranged to suit the individual space. Being able to individualise a large piece, such as a luxury shelving unit, makes it a good investment in terms of space, as all of the items that one needs to store can be placed within a harmonious, elegant piece. Some designs even have parts and shelves that can be arranged and rearranged constantly to suit the space and the occasion.

Individual bespoke shelves are another option that can bring a great amount of storage and practicality to a room. Available in many materials, advances in technology have even made it possible to create chic and elegant shelving in glass, which has the benefit of looking ultra-modern whilst remaining subtle and discreet. Available in varying lengths, with a design that can be either a simple horizontal, or with in-built bookends, or even a design that joins two shelves together to create a small, wall-mounted unit. Luxury shelves can be used in a multitude of ways, from hanging a single shelf to filling a wall with various shelves to create a stunning and highly personal display.
