Georgian Townhouse

by Oliver Burns

In re-designing this central London property, Oliver Burns worked closely with English Heritage to retain the remaining original architectural features. Elsewhere, we reinstated period details, such as grand doors, fireplaces, intricate cornices and delicate gilding typical of the Georgian period.

A beautifully proportioned entrance hall paved with Cararra marble sets the tone of this elegant apartment with its statement Art Nouveau Lalique console table juxtaposed with antique mirrors. Throughout, Blacks, beiges and golds form the background palette of this 18th Century townhouse.

The gracious drawing room with its Chesterfield sofas flows into the dining room through an elegant archway and the harmonious colour scheme provides visual continuity throughout the two rooms. The distinctive character continues in the master bedroom where its four poster bed provides a regal sophistication. The result is a superbly opulent residence, which marries sensitivity to the traditional values of our English heritage.
